The Wake-Up Call Show: Mid-Life Crisis or Mid-Life Awakening? (Video)

The Wake-Up Call Show: Mid-Life Crisis or Mid-Life Awakening? (Video)

Dearest One,

This past weekend it finally happened. I knew it was coming. It was inevitable. I turned the big 4-0.

Yep, November 2nd was my 40th bday.

(My husband, sister and mom and dad threw me a huge, rocking bday party 2 weekends ago to celebrate. I wore a fabulous bright red maternity dress and danced my tushy off while my husband played live music and peeps gobbled down taco truck grub. My hubby even serenaded me with the song he wrote for me, Walk This World With You. The same song he used to propose to me 12 years ago. Gush. Gulp. Gratitude.)

But, 40th birthdays can also feel like an ominous portal into mid-life. The time when people go a little nuts and throw away marriages, careers they’ve spent 20 years building and end up with a Porsche in the driveway of the home they have 3 mortgages on.

Instead of doing all that I’m choosing to turn the midlife crisis into a midlife awakening. I made a short video to show you how:

No matter what your age, chances are there is something in your life that could use a perspective shift. A re-frame if you will. Watch the video and use it to do just that.

Leave a comment below about what value you will start honoring so you can turn your crisis into an awakening! And thank you for sharing this post with your communities!

Wearing my 40s like a new pair of fabulous shoes,

P.S. I first heard the term mid-life awakening from my dear friend and soul sister, the transformational artist, Shiloh Sophia McCloud. Shiloh is an astonishing human being filled with tribal wisdom and modern day magic.

We are co-leading a breakthrough process via live stream on November 15th, called Awakened Woman. It will be a day filled with breakthroughs, community, laughter, truth and painting. Won’t you join us from anywhere in the world and awaken your truth?

Loved the video Amy and the reframe of mid life crisis as mid life (or any time) opportunity.

    So what’s missing?

I think that I have been drifting for…EVER!

Sheesh I just spontaneously wrote a verse-think James Taylor on this theme.

And the freedom theme rings loud too…

    Some new growth beckons

    🙂

I just turned 49 and am definitely in the middle of a crisis. Actually it’s been going on for years, as I have been drifting too, not taking charge of my life, just letting it carry me along. I’ve been raising my kids and doing some freelance work on the side, but am now feeling massively unfulfilled (plus I need to make more money). So I guess that’s what my inner wisdom is asking me to wake up to: Take charge! I started therapy, am going to Al-Anon, and am also in a women’s writing group. I also joined the Y and plan to start a more disciplined exercise regimen.

I also celebrated my birthday on November 2nd and turned 42! Thanks for being an inspiration! My wake-up call is about inviting in the qualities I truly and deeply desire in a home, partner, and family and the faith, inner work, and letting go that is required to support and midwife this shift. Lots of Love.

Thanks so much for this. The tap on my shoulder last year got to the point where it became a smack upside my head because I refused to listen. I ended up in the hospital where some wonderful people assured me I could take the world off my shoulders and have someone look after it while I looked after myself. It has been a year off work—many classes–great therapists and doctors and I am on the path to finding more balance in my life. I was not honoring my creativity….and now I am knitting, blogging, cooking—doing zumba, yoga, body flow and managing my family and home life. The next step will be returning to work or finding new work or deciding not to work and managing what that means to my family. So today, I will honor bravery. I am brave. I will face the decisions ahead knowing I can successfully navigate whatever happens—and I will bravely honor my creativity in whatever next step I choose.
    xoxo

    Inspiring as usual, Amy.

I’m pleased to say there’s not much longing in my life right now, but I know that will change just as the tide rolls in and out. And when it does, I will embrace this perspective and come out more alive.

Thank you for sharing your grace.

I am way past 40! What came up for me was the need to love myself so I can remain relaxed and harmonious most of the time and feel what my body is sensing and desiring. So when I am eating a piece of pineapple I am right there with that deliciousness and free to lick it and feel sensual. I discovered today, when I had given up concern about my children, somehow letting go of my mind tension and concern liberated my body to feel so much more. Thank you for a beautiful video and a belated Happy Birthday.

I’m waking up to who I really am and stepping out of the shadows. The values that I’ve forgotten about and would like to add into my life are fun, playfulness and spontaneity!

Thank you for another wisdom-filled video, Amy. You’re a Fabulous 40 Foxy Mama! Happy Birthday 🙂

I got my wake-up call when I got very sick. I was going from one doctor to another, and after a couple of routine blood work checks, they told me that there was absolutely nothing wrong with me and I was fine.

Well, I did not feel fine. I was getting worse and worse. At one point I got so sick, I was bedridden for days and I was too sick to visit a doctor. I had to quit my job.

Finally I went to yet another doctor. He ran another blood check and told me to take some medicine for my gastritis. It made me even sicker, I almost died.

I temporarily gave up on doctors. I spent one year researching medicine and diseases on my own. Then I went to an independent lab and took a bunch of tests to check out my suspicions. Well, the doctors were wrong and I was right. When I brought them the results of my tests, the ones I ordered for myself, they told me I was sick enough to be hospitalized!

I really don’t know what it means. I believe my wake up call is to continue my education and to go into… maybe not medicine but healing? I am still trying to recover so… at one point in my life I will do it.

Thank you for your video. You are amazing. Happy 40!
